Your Child CAN Have Fun, Learning to Read

Learning to read doesn't have to mean endless worksheets and sitting at a desk. It doesn’t have to be all drills and flashcards, either.

Instead, it can be an exciting blend of digital and paper resources that keep kids engaged. While worksheets can be valuable (and I include some for those who enjoy them), reading instruction should also involve interactive activities and fun games.

The best part is when kids are learning through play, and they don't even realize it—they just soak it all in naturally.

WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL LEARN

Each module seamlessly builds on the previous one, with lessons carefully structured to ensure that children are continuously accumulating and reinforcing their knowledge. With every lesson, they’re not just learning—they’re building a solid foundation and strengthening their skills through ongoing practice.

Letter Sounds

Learning phonics, or letter sounds, is a fundamental part of early reading instruction, grounded in the science of how our brains process language. Phonics teaches children the relationship between letters and sounds, enabling them to decode words as they read.

Here are some things we will cover:

  • Primary letter sounds of all 26 letters (including the two primary sounds of each vowel)

  • Mouth positioning

  • Letter names

  • Words that begin with each letter sound

  • How to write each letter

Blending Letter Sounds

Blending and segmenting are essential skills in phonics that form the bridge between recognizing individual letter sounds and reading complete words. Blending involves smoothly combining letter sounds to form words, while segmenting is the ability to break words down into their individual sounds. Mastering these skills not only helps children decode new words with ease, but it also strengthens their spelling and writing abilities.

Here are some things we will cover:

  • Strategies for reading 2- and 3-letter words through blending letter sounds

  • Understanding continuous and stop sounds for smoother word formation

  • How to write two and three-letter words

  • Using those words in a sentence to enhance reading comprehension and writing skills

Building our First Sentences

Learning to read and write sentences is a crucial step in developing literacy skills. It allows children to move beyond individual words and start expressing complete thoughts. Reading sentences fluently, helps children develop a natural reading rhythm, improves comprehension, and builds their confidence as they begin to understand the meaning behind the words they read.

Here are some things we will cover:

  • Tricky high-frequency sight words

  • How to write sentences with correct finger spaces, uppercase letters, and punctuation

  • How to read sentences fluently using our blending techniques

  • Techniques for fluency including phrasing, reading rate, and expression

TESTIMONIALS

What our families are saying...

"My neurodivergent 7 year old participated in 5-day workshop. She enjoyed the live zoom sessions and asked to join them each day. She especially liked the games like thumbs up/down for words that start with the daily letter and the home scavenger hunt for an item that starts with the daily letter. She enjoyed some of the resources that I strewed from Catherine’s program like the letter craft and the online game of choosing the appearing/disappearing image of items that start with the daily letter. Catherine was open to hearing my feedback on the pre-recorded videos and materials for improving accessibility for my child’s unique learning needs. Catherine was able to make changes and adapt the resources quickly so my child could continue the program. We were lucky to try the one-week program individually, which works best for my child for processing the information. I think the full program has the potential to improve letter sound awareness, build a strong foundation for reading and to initiate reading for many children. If my child continues to express interest and desire to continue, I will support her in her learning journey by enrolling in Catherine’s full curriculum."

- Angela (Canada)

As an elementary teacher, I find it difficult to juggle the vast variety of needs of my students. This program is an excellent resource that students can use independently in the classroom while I'm busy working with other students. This program is also great for extra practice at home. The modules are easy to follow and the videos are engaging. The best part is this program requires minimal prep time as the workbook, assessments and additional games and videos are all included!

- Melissa A (Teacher in Ontario, Canada)

" The program takes all the guesswork out of beginning our homeschooling journey. Ms. J has thought about absolutely everything! From the preparation process to the fabulous workbook, and the beautiful videos, it's all covered! "

- Rachel (homeschool mom, Australia)

STILL have QUESTIONS?

Frequently Asked Questions

What age is this program for?

This will depend on your child's DEVELOPMENTAL stage. Every child is unique. I would say that ages 4 and up will not only enjoy it, but be able to participate in all aspects of the program. However, younger children will also enjoy and learn. My 2-year-old follows along, participates, and remembers what she learns in my videos. Some children may not be ready yet for the writing portion, so you can just skip that part for now and go back to it when they have better developed their fine motor skills.

For how long can I access the content?

For forever! You will have lifetime access to this program and all of the contents (not including the live lessons), including all future updates. Not only that, but you can access ANY TIME 24/7. This means you can create your OWN schedule and routine. This also means you can go at your CHILD'S pace. Spend more, or less, time as needed. Let your child guide the learning. The lessons are there, and your child can watch them as often as they need to.

I don't know how to teach. Will I be able to help my child? How much will I have to do?

Absolutely you can help! I will also help you every step of the way. The program is meant to do the heavy lifting for you, so you can spend your valuable time having fun with your child. I provide all of the worksheets, activities, and games, so you don't need to wonder how to do it all or what to use. Not only that, but I provide you with a list of other ways to practice in a fun way, complete with a full description of how to implement it. I also provide some teaching tips in the parent portal. You can do it!! Don't forget to lean on the private community, for support as well!

What materials will we need?

Beyond having a device for the online portion, you will need the following: A white board and marker is super helpful for this course, not only in the modules, but also in the live lessons and for games and activities. Paper, pencil, colouring tools, for writing and colouring. Scissors and glue for letter crafts. And if you have a printer, then that is great for the workbook. Alternatively you can recreate them yourself, or get the book printed at a printing shop, or even your local library.

What do you mean by a PILOT course?

Great question! Well, this is the FIRST version of the course. I have been working on this for over two years, but this is the first time I am offering it to families. This means that 1. You get to contribute and provide feedback so I can create the best course for your family and 2. You get in at the lowest price it will EVER be. AND you get access to the program, and all future updates that come with it, FOR LIFE!

Do I HAVE TO assess my child?

I get it. A lot of you have decided to homeschool, to avoid the traditional system and what comes along with that. But here's the thing: Assessment doesn't have to be stressful for your child. It doesn't have to be intense. Sure you can formally assess with flash cards and track with the digital tool (included), but you could also just check in with your child through games and activities. Assessment lets you know where they are currently at, and where they need to go. Progress checkins are especially important so that you don't move on, BEFORE your child is ready to. Spend as much time as they need, where they need it. THAT'S the beauty of this course, and learning at home.
